Dart Game Funda
Playing darts is a good excuse for having a few beers. In the other hand, beer drinking is a perfectly good excuse for exercising your dart playing skills. If you are new to darts or even if you are an experienced player, you can use this page as a reference to the basic rules of some of the most popular games. If you havequestions, comments or suggestions drop me an mallanaveen@gmail.com
General Rules
- Height: 1,73 m (measured from the Bull’s Eye)
- Throwing distance: 2,37 m (player´s feet should stay behind this mark)
- At each turn the player throws three darts
- If a dart falls from the board before the player gets it, its score is not computed
Scoring
- The dartboard is divided in 20 slices. Each slice has an associated value, indicated in the outside area (from 1 to 20)
- The Bull (circle in the center of the board) scores 50 points. The green ring around the Bull scores 25 points
- The outer ring doubles the score while the inner ring triples it. For example, a dart that hit 20’s slice usually scores 20 points (brilliant!) but will score 40 if it hits the outer ring and 60 if it hits the inner ring
- So the top score with one dart is the triple 20, not the bull’s eye!
501
- Each player starts with 501 points
- At each turn, the points obtained in the three darts are subtracted from the player´s total ammount
- To close the game the player must go all the way down to 0 point. But he must throw his last dart in a DOUBLE (the Bull´s Eye is also considered a double – double 25). For Example, if 32 points lacks, the player must hit the external circle at the 16´s slice
- If the player scores more than the number of points he needs to close the game or exactly the number he needs (but not hitting a double) or if only one point rests (there is no such thing as double 1/2), the points of that turn are not considered and the turn goes to the opponent. This is called a blow
- The players should agree beforehand if it is going to be a “double in” match. If that is the case, each player only starts scoring when he/she hits a double
Tactics
- The goal of the game is to close the numbers 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15,14, trebles, doubles and the Bull, the order is not relevant. The number is closed when the player hits it three times (makes three marks). After that he may score in that number until the opponent closes it too.
- For the closure of the Bull, the Green Bull scores one mark and the Bull´s Eye itself scores 2 marks
- Triples score three marks and doubles score two
- The game finishes when the player with more points has all the numbers and the Bull closed. If the player with less points closes all first, he must use the numbers that are still open to score to get the overcome the opponent before he closes too
Suicide Cricket
- This is called Suicide Cricket. Good for 3 or more players.
- Each player must shoot at the 20’s until all players close it. If a player doesn’t close it the first round everyone keeps hitting it until it is closed. Then you go onto 19, 18 etc.
- If you hit another cricket number you lose a turn per what you hit (single= 1 turn, double=2 etc…. Bull is 4/8 for split). The object is to close as quickly as possible and run your opponets scores up.
- The Philadelphia Bar Record is 3,127. The game was won by a guy with 15 points.
Mickey Mouse
- It´s a Tactics variation
- The rule that makes the difference between Mickey and traditional Tactics is that, once both players have closed a number, if one of them hits that number, the score of that dart goes to the opponent.
- It may seem to be a non-important change, but it forces the players to close the Bull as soon as they can. Imagine that all numbers are closed. Can you have the picture of how many points you would give to your opponent trying to close the Bull?
Killer
- Each player chooses a number by throwing a dart with his non-throwing hand
- The player tries to hit his number exactly 5 times. When he gets to it he becomes a KILLER
- The Killer throws to the other player´s numbers (including other killers) subtracting points form them. When the player comes to 0 point he is removed from the game
- If a Killer has his number hit by another Killer, looses his position and has to regain it by throwing to his number until he gets to 5 points again
- If the thrower overides 5 points he goes back the number of exceeding points. IOW, if you have 4 points and hit a triple, you´ll stay with 3 (4+1-2)
- If a non-Killer hits another player´s number, he scores for the second one (if the second is not a killer, of course)
- The one who survives till the end is the winner
